What this site is
WattWise covers home energy tech: smart thermostats, energy monitors, plugs, power stations, and the heat pump versus furnace math. We care about one thing above all: does it actually save you money, and how long until it pays for itself.
How our guides get made
We start with specs, standards, and pricing, then do the payback math on realistic usage instead of best-case brochures. Then we read installer and owner reports for the stuff specs do not show: reliability, app quality, and customer support when something breaks. Savings claims get caveated by home and climate, because a heat pump in Maine is not a heat pump in Texas.
Every guide gets an editorial review for clarity, sourcing, and consistency before publication, checking accuracy and missing alternatives. We revisit comparisons when prices, incentives, or models change.
What we never do
- Greenwashing. If the savings do not pencil out, we say so.
- Paid rankings. Money never moves a position.
- Pretend testing. Our work is research-based, and we are upfront about it.
How we make money
New site, zero revenue so far. The plan: display ads and affiliate links to gear we recommend. Any commission costs you nothing extra and never changes our conclusions.
